Higher Education Ministry: Students still allowed on campus, SOPs apply

PETALING JAYA: Operations at higher education institutions (IPT) during the Emergency period and the reinstated movement control order (MCO) will proceed as planned, says the Higher Education Ministry.

This includes the return of international students to campuses that began on Jan 1, while local students can return to their campuses from March 1, it added.

“Accordingly, all students who have been on campus should remain on their respective campuses and follow hybrid learning, ” it said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 12).

The ministry said all other students would continue their study programmes online until the end of the MCO.

International assessments and professional body examinations will also continue to be conducted at campuses, it added.

Students who need special facilities such as those undergoing clinical training, internships, taking professional examinations, need laboratories, studios and Internet access could remain on campus, it continued.

The ministry also said students could obtain a letter from their respective IPTs to apply for permission for inter-district or inter-state travel to return to campus.

“All research activities involving laboratory facilities are allowed with the permission from department heads and in accordance with strict standard operating procedures (SOP).

“The ministry calls for the implementation of academic activities on campus to be carried out in full compliance with the SOPs that had been set, prioritise safety measures and practice new norms such as always wearing face masks, using disinfectants and maintaining physical distancing, ” it added.
