Higher Education Ministry urges students, lecturers, staff to cooperate with authorities in curbing Covid-19 spread

PETALING JAYA: The Higher Education Ministry has called upon students, lecturers and staff of higher education institutions (HEIs) to continuously cooperate with authorities in curbing the spread of Covid-19.

Pointing out that the accumulated number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia has reached 48,520 as of Nov 16, Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad said all levels of society – including students and academics – must cooperate with authorities to contain the number of Covid-19 cases.

“In less than a year, accumulated Covid-19 cases worldwide has reached 54.4mil. Death cases reached 1.32mil.”

She added that everyone should adopt CAPP (cegah, amal, patuh, pantau) in the current situation.

“Cegah (prevent) the spread by educating your family and community about new norms.

“Amal (cultivate) by emphasising on the importance of fostering good behaviour to prevent family and community from Covid-19 infections.

“Patuh (comply) with standard operating procedures (SOP) and directives set by the authorities at all times.

“Pantau (monitor) by immediately getting treatment when necessary; constantly check on your body temperature. Monitor your personal and family’s health status, ” she said in her opening address during the ministry’s new norm cultivation campaign virtual launch on Tuesday (Nov 17).

Reiterating that virtual learning is the new norm for the foreseeable future, Noraini said students and HEIs must ensure to follow the 3Ws and avoid the 3Cs.

“Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, wear a mask always, continuously follow directives and SOPs.

“Avoid crowded places, confined spaces and close conversations, ” she said.
