Maszlee sends demand letter to Umno Youth chief over history textbook spat

PETALING JAYA: A letter of demand (LoD) has been sent to Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki over his claim that content in Form Four History textbooks had been manipulated.

Former education minister Dr Maszlee Malik (pic), who sent the LoD, said it was for claiming the contents “glorified communists” and that it had been done intentionally by the Pakatan Harapan government.

Maszlee served in the Pakatan government from May 2018 to January 2020.

“My lawyer has sent an LoD to Asyraf on the malicious defamation statement he made on his Facebook page on Feb 24.

“It demands him to delete the post immediately; ensure that any profile or Facebook page, as well as other social media accounts that posted the statement retracts and deletes it immediately; publish a written apology, which I have agreed to, on his Facebook page and in newspapers; and pay me compensation, which I must first agree to, because the posts were put up to clearly defame me, ” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (March 2).

If the claims are not entertained within the stipulated period, Maszlee said further legal action would be taken.

Maszlee said he initiated the legal process to ensure that such racist, slanderous remarks are not made again.
