Senior teacher bids farewell | The Star

AFTER 27 years of service, teacher Rohaina Mat Kilau from SMK Mantin, Negri Sembilan, retired at the age of 55.

But Rohaina, who received the Excellent Service Award in 2015 for her contributions to the profession, already has a list of activities planned to keep herself busy.

The mother of five is looking forward to deepening her knowledge of religion, cooking, handicrafting and gardening. She is also planning to travel and to accompany her daughter who is studying for a degree in medicine in Ireland.

Reminding students to study hard for a better future, she said her fondest memories in a career that spanned close to three decades were seeing her students attend university.

She also advised those who intend to become teachers to have patience and a sincere heart to teach their students.

Born in Gemas in 1965, Rohaina received her early education at SK Hutan Kampung, Alor Star, Kedah, before moving to SK Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur.

Her secondary years were in Negri Sembilan where she attended SMK Bukit Jalur and SMK Tunku Ampuan Durah.
