UTHM gets new deputy VC | The Star



PROF Dr Azme Khamis, 51 is the deputy vice-chancellor (academic and international) of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM).

This is the second time he is being appointed to the post he held for seven months in 2017.

He was the dean at UTHM Graduate School before taking over from Prof Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman on Dec 1.

Prof Azme, 51, was also the varsity’s former Center for Academic Development and Training director, and both Faculty of Science, Technology and Human Development dean and deputy dean.

His appointment, done via a letter signed by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini, is for a three-year stint which ends on Nov 30,2023.

The Johor native is active in research serving as a researcher and chief researcher for several types of grants including the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme.

Prof Azme, who has more than 20 years of experience in teaching, has hundreds of scholarly publications under his belt including books, journals, policy papers and proceedings, thus qualifying him to receive several publishing awards from UTHM.

As a professor at the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology, he has supervised about 50 postgraduate and undergraduate students and also been on the examining panel for the presentation of master’s and doctoral theses within and outside the university.

Congratulating Prof Azme in a press release on Nov 30, UTHM vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Wahid Razzaly expressed hope that he would continue contributing his knowledge, ideas and expertise to ensure that the varsity and the local higher education sector excelled.
